Yame Yabukita Matcha
八女 やぶきた 抹茶
Single Cultivar Yabukita
Produced in the historic tea fields of Yame, Yame Yabukita Matcha is a single-cultivar matcha made entirely from Yabukita, Japan’s most widely grown and beloved tea cultivar. While many premium matcha blends are designed around multiple cultivars for complexity, this matcha highlights the honest, classic character of Yabukita itself: fresh green aroma, balanced umami, gentle sweetness, and a clean grassy finish.
Yame is one of Japan’s most respected tea regions, long admired for its deep umami, refined sweetness, and elegant shaded teas. Best known for exceptional gyokuro, Yame has the ideal environment for producing rich, flavorful green tea: misty mountain air, mineral-rich soils, and dramatic temperature shifts between day and night. These conditions help create teas with smooth texture, clarity, and lingering depth.
Yabukita brings a familiar and beautifully balanced profile to this matcha. It is not overly heavy, overly sweet, or overly vegetal. Instead, it offers a clean expression of Japanese green tea: bright grassy notes, soft savory depth, light sweetness, and a refreshing finish. Compared with more modern cultivars that emphasize intense umami or vivid aroma, Yabukita feels classic, structured, and easy to enjoy.
What makes this matcha special is its simplicity. As a single-cultivar Yabukita from Yame, it allows you to taste both the cultivar and the region clearly. The cup has enough umami to feel satisfying, enough grassiness to feel fresh, and enough sweetness to remain smooth and approachable. It is a matcha that feels traditional, honest, and versatile.
This matcha is ceramic-ground, giving it a carefully milled character. Yame Yabukita Matcha is especially enjoyable for daily usucha, iced matcha, and matcha lattes. Its balanced flavor makes it easy to drink on its own, while its classic green tea structure also holds up well with milk.
