The "Etched Water" Collection celebrates the peaceful beauty of rivers, lakes, and mountain landscapes. Each teapot is individually hand-carved with serene scenes of blooming lotus flowers, graceful goldfish gliding through still water, mist-covered mountains, solitary fishing boats drifting across quiet lakes, and birds soaring overhead. Elegant Chinese calligraphy completes each composition, while a precisely fitted lid and effortless, smooth pour make these teapots as enjoyable to use as they are to admire.
Crafted in Qinzhou, Guangxi Province, Nixing Teapots (坭兴陶) have been treasured in China for centuries and are recognized as one of the country's Four Great Pottery Traditions. Among experienced tea drinkers, they're especially admired for brewing Liu Bao, other heicha, and aged raw puerh/heicha, with many considering Nixing one of the finest clay types for bringing out the character of post-fermented teas.
Each teapot is handcrafted from a blend of two local clays sourced from opposite sides of the Qin River.
Rather than relying on glazes for color, Nixing teapots develop their appearance naturally during high-temperature reduction firing, making every teapot subtly unique.
One of the reasons Nixing is so highly regarded is the clay itself. It retains heat exceptionally well while remaining naturally breathable, helping darker teas brew consistently through long gongfu sessions. Many tea lovers find that it gently rounds out bitterness, softens astringency, highlights sweetness, and creates a fuller, silkier mouthfeel without covering up the tea's natural aroma.
Like other traditional unglazed clay teapots, Nixing gradually seasons with use as it absorbs trace aromatic compounds from the tea. For this reason, many collectors dedicate a single teapot exclusively to Liu Bao or another favorite dark tea, allowing both the clay and the tea to develop together over years of brewing.
