Nixing "Etched Fields" Teapot Collection

(Approx. 130-270 ml)

Dimensions: 5-6" wide x 2.5-4.5" tall

Nixing Teapots (坭兴陶), handcrafted in Qinzhou, Guangxi Province, are one of China's Four Great Pottery Traditions and are especially prized for brewing Liu Bao and  Heicha. It's a fitting pairing—not only do both originate from Guangxi, but many experienced tea drinkers believe Nixing clay brings out the very best in post-fermented teas.

Potters blend two native clays found on opposite sides of the Qin River—one softer and more workable, the other denser and stronger—to create a clay that is durable, smooth, and exceptionally well balanced.

During firing at around 2,190°F (1,200°C) in a reduction atmosphere, the clay naturally transforms into beautiful shades of bronze, charcoal, purple-brown, and reddish-purple without the use of any glaze. Every teapot develops its own unique character, making each one subtly different.

This Nixing clay is dense, naturally breathable, and excellent at retaining heat, which allows Liu Bao, Shou Puerh, aged Raw Puerh, and other heicha to brew evenly over multiple infusions while gently softening bitterness, reducing astringency, enhancing sweetness, and creating a richer, smoother mouthfeel without masking the tea's character.

Like other traditional unglazed clay teapots, Nixing gradually absorbs trace aromatic compounds from the teas brewed inside, developing a seasoned interior over years of use. Many tea lovers dedicate a Nixing teapot exclusively to Liu Bao or other dark teas, allowing both the teapot and the tea to evolve together with every session.

This "Etched Fields" Collection features beautifully hand-carved scenes of peaceful field landscapes with wildflowers, butterflies, snails, and elegant Chinese calligraphy. Each teapot is finished with a perfectly fitted lid and a smooth, seamless pour, making it a beautiful companion for years of gongfu tea sessions.
