Nixing Xi Shi Teapot Collection (Approx. 190-240 ml)
Dimensions: 5.25-5.5" wide x 3-3.5" tall
The Xi Shi Collection celebrates one of the most iconic teapot forms in Chinese teaware. Named after the legendary Chinese beauty Xi Shi, its graceful silhouette is defined by a perfectly rounded body, a lid that blends seamlessly into the curves of the teapot, and a rounded knob on the lid. The gently downward-curving spout that creates an elegant, effortless pour, matches harmoniously with the soft rounded curves of the teapot. Free from carved decoration, the design allows the natural beauty of the clay and the harmony of its proportions to take center stage.
Crafted in Qinzhou, Guangxi Province, Nixing Teapots (坭兴陶) have been treasured in China for centuries and are recognized as one of China's Four Great Pottery Traditions. They are especially beloved for brewing Liu Bao, Shou Puerh, aged Raw Puerh, and other heicha, with many experienced tea drinkers considering Nixing clay one of the finest materials for bringing out the best in post-fermented teas.
Nixing clay is prized for its ability to retain heat while remaining naturally breathable. During a gongfu tea session, it helps darker teas brew evenly over many infusions while gently softening bitterness, reducing astringency, enhancing sweetness, and creating a smoother, fuller mouthfeel without masking the tea's natural character.
Like other traditional unglazed clay teapots, Nixing gradually seasons with use, absorbing trace aromatic compounds from the teas brewed inside. Many tea enthusiasts dedicate a single Nixing teapot to Liu Bao or another favorite heicha, allowing both the clay and the tea to evolve together over years of brewing.
Understated, timeless, and wonderfully balanced in the hand, these teapots embody the quiet elegance that has made the Xi Shi form a favorite among gongfu tea drinkers for generations.
