A 100 ml handmade Jianshui teapot for solo gongfu tea sessions. The round body is compact and comfortable to hold, with a built-in ball strainer and the fast, clean pour we appreciate in Master Zhu's teapots. Choose from Midnight Ink, a smoother deep-charcoal finish, or Ember Crackle, with warm brown-black tones and a naturally crackled surface.

Made for Puerh and Other Full-Bodied Teas

Jianshui clay holds heat well, which makes this teapot especially enjoyable for ripe puerh (shou), raw puerh (sheng), black tea, and aged white tea. The ball strainer helps keep broad, whole tea leaves away from the spout during quick steeps. It's versatile enough for different teas, though we prefer a gentler vessel for delicate green teas.

A Little About Jianshui

Jianshui, in China's Yunnan province, has a centuries-old pottery tradition known for its finely prepared clay and careful finishing. Jianshui purple pottery, or zitao, is generally less porous than many traditional unglazed teapot clays, making it a practical choice for tea drinkers who enjoy switching between different kinds of tea.

Leo's Story: The Teapot That Led Me to Jianshui

I first discovered Master Zhu's teapots in a shop in Shenzhen. I loved one so much that I decided I had to visit Jianshui and learn more.

When I arrived a year later, the woman checking me into my hotel on the first night turned out to be Master Zhu's niece. Of all the people I could have met, it was the niece of the potter whose work brought me to Jianshui in the first place.

That little piece of serendipity turned into a friendship. Master Zhu and I have since become good friends, and I've learned so much from him about clay, balance, and what makes a teapot pour well.
