2024 Jingmai Dragon Ball Raw Puerh

A floral orchid aroma, a unique brothy body and savoriness, a faint smokiness that compliments the tea, notes of baked apricot, and a floral/slightly herbal aftertaste that lingers by the throat. This 2024 Jingmai Dragon Ball Raw Puerh has a complex, yet balanced profile, combining a bright, lively bitterness with a sweetness that lingers in the mouth, known as “huigan” (回甘).

The Jingmai Mountain sits at an altitude of about 1,500-1,700 meters (4,900-5,600 feet), creating ideal conditions for tea cultivation. The climate is subtropical with high humidity, mist, and moderate sunlight, which fosters the growth of broad-leaf tea trees. The biodiverse forest with tea trees growing among natural flora and native tree species, creates a natural canopy that benefits the tea plants and gives the tea leaves the layered complexity Jingmai Puerh is known for. This young Jingmai Puerh harvested in the spring of this year has a crisper taste compared to its aged counterparts, but still retains a thick and smooth mouthfeel that coats tongue that warms sides of the mouth, while giving a cooling sensation in the chest. For this tea, we recommend brewing quickly Gongfu Style.

Gongfu Brewing Method: Pour 195°F (90°C) water over the ball in a 90ml gaiwan. Rinse once, the steep for 7 seconds. This is only for the initial brew. For the next couple infusions, only steep for 3-5 seconds. The tea should come out a beautiful golden color. Because of its youth, it is easy for this tea to become drying and slightly bitter if you brew too long, so make sure to steep for only a couple seconds. After the 6th infusion, you can steep every brew 1 second longer than the previous brew to enjoy the same intensity of tea up to 15 times. We find that the tea’s flavor develops sweeter and more complex as you brew more infusions, reaching its peak around the 6-9th infusion.
