When someone asks us for a good everyday Chinese black tea, Golden Monkey is one of the easiest teas to recommend. It has enough richness and sweetness to feel satisfying, but it is still smooth enough to drink regularly without becoming heavy or tiring.

Golden Monkey is made from tender spring-picked leaves and buds, which is part of what gives this tea its naturally soft texture and sweet aroma. Compared with stronger, more brisk black teas, this style is less about sharp tannin and more about roundness, sweetness, and body.

What makes a good Golden Monkey so enjoyable is the balance between malt, cocoa, fruit, and gentle spice. The first thing we usually notice is the chocolate-like sweetness. As the tea opens, deeper malt notes appear, followed by roasted apple and a soft warming spice character. The texture is creamy and smooth, almost like warm chocolate or malted cocoa melting across the palate.

For people who normally drink breakfast-style black tea, this is also a great introduction to Chinese black tea. Chinese black teas often emphasize natural sweetness, fragrance, and texture rather than strong bitterness or astringency. You can still get plenty of body and caffeine, but the experience tends to feel softer and more layered.

This tea is also very forgiving to brew. Brew it lighter and you will get a sweeter, softer cup with more fruit and cocoa. Push it a little harder and the maltiness becomes deeper and richer without quickly turning harsh. That makes it a great tea for both beginners and experienced black tea drinkers.

If you are looking for a black tea that can easily become part of your daily routine, this is one of those teas that is simple to enjoy but still interesting enough to come back to again and again.

Brewing Instructions: To bring out more sweetness and texture, use about 3g of tea in a 100ml gaiwan with water around 190°F. Steep for approximately 30 seconds for the first infusion, then around 20 seconds for the second infusion, gradually increasing the time with each following steep.
