Phoenix Oolong from Wudong, particularly those from ancient trees like this 150 year old ancient tree Wudong Mi Lan Xiang Phoenix Dancong Oolong (烏埬蜜蘭香单丛乌龙茶), are considered premium offerings in the world of oolong teas. These ancient trees yield tea leaves with unparalleled complexity in aroma and taste, reflecting their maturity and deep-rooted connection to the soil.

Wudong Mountain is also the highest peak in Phoenix Mountain, with elevations exceeding 1,000 meters. This high altitude ensures a misty and humid environment, which is ideal for the growth of tea plants in addition to their soil rich in minerals and organic matter. Tea enthusiasts highly prize them for their unparalleled flavor complexity and connection to traditional Chinese tea culture. Because of their rarity and quality, Wudong teas often command high prices, making them a symbol of luxury in the tea world.

When you drink this tea, the sweet floral notes of orchid and chrysanthemum fills your mouth, leaving a floral and nutty aftertaste that lingers in your throat. The mouthfeel is silky with a medium body that gives a cooling sensation in the chest after drinking. There is also a slight mineral brightness at the end that balances out the sweetness of the tea, giving you a layered floral and complex tea experience. This satisfying honey orchid profile is the signature characteristic of this Mi Lang Xiang cultivar.

Brewing Method: The key to brewing this tea is to use a lower temperature (around 195°F/91°C) to bring out the full sweetness. We recommend using the Gongfu method by using a 90ml gaiwan with 7 grams of tea leaves. After quickly rinsing the tea, steep the tea for 10-12 seconds for the first infusion. You should get a beautiful golden color and sweet floral aroma. For every infusion after the first one, only steep for 2 seconds. You should be able to enjoy this tea up to 10 infusions.

This combination of natural advantages, ancient roots, and meticulous craftsmanship has cemented Wudong’s reputation as one of the top oolong tea production regions in China. This Wudong Mi Lan Xiang Phoenix Dancong Oolong lives up to the region’s reputation with its inviting and sweet floral profile and is an amazing pick for any Phoenix Oolong enthusiast.

Notes: Orchid, Chrysanthemum, Honey, Chestnut, Minerals
