The Plateau Collection celebrates classic Chinese teapot forms distinguished by their elegant flat lids and clean, architectural silhouettes. Shapes such as the Stone Dipper (石瓢), admired for its stable triangular form that represents balance, strength, and simplicity, and the Zhitong Han Wa (直筒汉瓦), inspired by the cylindrical roof tiles of the Han Dynasty and symbolizing timeless refinement, have remained favorites among tea lovers for generations.
Rather than relying on decorative carving, these iconic forms showcase the harmony of proportion, allowing the natural beauty of Nixing clay and the craftsmanship behind each teapot to take center stage. Finished with precisely fitted lids and smooth, effortless pours, these timeless designs bring both beauty and function to every gongfu tea session.
Handcrafted in Qinzhou, Guangxi Province, Nixing pottery (坭兴陶) has been admired for centuries and is recognized as one of China's Four Great Pottery Traditions. Its unique clay has made it a favorite among gongfu tea drinkers, particularly for Liu Bao, Shou Puerh, aged Raw Puerh, and other heicha, where it is prized for enhancing texture while preserving the tea's natural character.
Excellent heat retention and gentle breathability make Nixing clay especially well suited to post-fermented teas. It helps smooth bitterness, soften astringency, encourage natural sweetness, and produce a fuller, silkier mouthfeel throughout a long gongfu session. With continued use, the unglazed interior gradually seasons as it absorbs trace aromas from the tea, making these teapots wonderful companions dedicated to a favorite Liu Bao or other dark tea.
