This Competition Shuixian Oolong (水仙乌龙) will excite seasoned oolong-drinkers with its remarkable mouthfeel and layered mineral profile.
Shuixian Oolong tea is a celebrated variety of oolong tea rooted in the rich tea culture of Fujian Province, China. Sourced from the renowned Wuyi Mountains, this tea is the epitome of traditional rock tea (Yancha), offering a sophisticated flavor profile that reflects its unique rocky environment. The Shuixian cultivar comes from robust, deep-rooted tea trees that produces thick, leathery leaves which imparts incredible depth and complexity to the tea.
Upon steeping, this Shuixian Oolong unfurls into a beautiful amber liquid and invites you in with its warm aroma of honey and orchids.
You can brew this high-quality tea with a 90ml Gaiwan using 5 grams of tea leaves and 204°F (96°C) water. First, give the tea leaves a quick rinse before steeping for 10-12 seconds for the first infusion. For the following infusions, steep for only 6-7 seconds and enjoy up to 5-6 infusions.
On the palate, this tea is very smooth, offering a rich body that sits at the front of the mouth before flowing smoothly down the throat. The tea’s mineral essence balances the sweet honey notes and woodiness, leaving a lingering floral orchid aroma in the nose and a warm, comforting sensation in the throat and chest. Even if left to steep for extended periods of time, this tea will not become bitter, although it may become dryer.
A true treasure from the Wuyi Mountains, this Shuixian Oolong will become a new staple in many tea-drinker’s oolong collection.
