2026 Yiwu Guafengzhai Sheng Puerh

This tea comes from Gua Feng Zhai (刮风寨), one of the most sought-after villages in Yiwu, Yunnan. Hidden deep in the forests near the Laos border, Gua Feng Zhai is known for raw puerh that combines Yiwu’s signature softness with a distinct wild mountain energy.

The tea trees grow around 1,200–1,700 meters among dense subtropical forest, mountain streams, native trees, and rich forest soil. This is Da Shu (大树) material from mature, established trees, giving the tea a thicker texture, deeper sweetness, and greater complexity than younger plantation tea.

The aroma opens with fresh bamboo, ginkgo nuts, and soft wild woodiness. The cup brings notes of fresh hay, bamboo shoots, lotus leaf, and lemon zest, along with a refreshing menthol-like cooling sensation. The texture is silky and gentle, followed by lingering floral and herbal sweetness.

One important note: this tea is still very young. Its flavors and aromatics have not completely settled or developed yet, which is why we're currently offering it at a sale price. Give it another 3–4 months of rest, and we expect the tea to begin showing much more of its shine—greater integration, sweetness, aroma, and depth. It’s a great opportunity to taste a young Gua Feng Zhai now and watch how quickly it evolves.

Gua Feng Zhai is especially prized for aging. With time, its sweetness deepens, fruit and honey notes emerge, and its forest character becomes increasingly complex. This is a raw puerh that rewards patience, both across a long gongfu session and over months and years of aging.

Gongfu Brewing

Use 5g of tea in a 90–100ml gaiwan or small teapot with 204°F (96°C) water. Rinse quickly, then steep the first infusion for 9–10 seconds. For the following infusions, steep for about 2 seconds each, gradually increasing the time after the 10th infusion. With careful brewing, the tea can comfortably reach around 20 infusions.
