This exceptional shincha comes from Asamiya (朝宮), one of Japan’s five ancient tea regions, nestled on the Shigaraki plateau where cool nights, warm days, and frequent morning mist create the perfect environment for slow, flavorful leaf development.
Harvested during the first flush of spring, this tea features only the youngest, most tender leaves. The result is a clean, nuanced sencha with signature floral notes typical of Asamiya tea, complemented by a gentle umami reminiscent of steamed edamame and a subtle muscat grape-like sweetness that linger at the end. Its texture is smooth and silky, with no astringency. This shincha is a great representation of quality Asamiya sencha.
This tea was judged and awarded for its appearance, aroma, umami, sweetness, aftertaste, and overall balance—qualities that reflect its careful cultivation and expert craftsmanship.
Brewing Instructions: To bring out its maximum sweetness and full complexity, brew 5g of tea leaves at a lower temperature between 140–145°F (60–63°C) for 90 seconds to 2 minutes in a 150-180 ml Japanese teapot such as a kyusu, hohin, or shiboridashi. You can expect up to 3 infusions from this tea.
This shincha is perfect for those who enjoy delicate, balanced teas. If you appreciate the gentle sweetness of young white teas or the subtle complexity of high-quality Chinese green teas and are looking to get into Japanese sencha, this Asamiya Award-Winning Shincha is what we would recommend for you.
