Ruzhou, a city in ancient China, was the home of the famous kiln factory known as Ru Kiln. It was founded during the Northern Song Dynasty and named after its production location. Ru Kiln became renowned for its production of printed celadon and was later designated as the official kiln for producing royal porcelain for the palace. It was then divided into two branches, Ru official kiln and Rumin kiln. However, due to the short firing period of Ruguan kiln and its destruction during the war between the Song and Jin Dynasties, Ru porcelain is now considered extremely rare and highly sought after.
Ruzhou is known for its abundant supply of agate stone, which is used as a glaze by the Ru kiln. This glaze boasts a pure and luminous appearance, with faint red specks visible when held up to sunlight - a unique characteristic not found in other porcelains.
Ru kiln porcelain glaze has a light azure color, referred to as "duck egg shell cyan". Its layers are not dense and vary in shades and depths as the shape turns. The flakes on the glaze surface are often fine and scattered, resembling a "cicada's wing pattern".
