Each year, there are many different types of competition in Japan. A lot of tea masters in Kyushu carefully handpick the finest quality tea leaves from each grown to participate in the competition, but not every year is best for every tea region. Different year, has different weather conditions, therefore different harvest quality. As much as we love single-cultivar sencha, sometimes it all depends on the crop situation. Some places like to blend different cultivars to achieve consistency and higher yield, those are normally put under lower quality blends.
But this particular blend is different. Our tea master selected the best cultivars from the harvest in different regions to craft a unique flavor that a single cultivar tea could never replicate. This takes a lot of experience and constant testing. Picking the top cultivar for each harvest season and making sure the flavors blend harmoniously is not an easy thing to do, especially since harvest results are not always the same. But when you find the perfect blend like this one, you'll know it's very special and that you'll never have another one like this in the future.
This particular sencha blend is from our favorite tea region in Japan, Miyazaki. The blend of this top cultivar sencha is nothing we've ever had before. It's very clean, yet it's complex. It's cooling, yet it has a strong aftertaste. Not only that, but it's refreshing with sweet grass tones, sweet fruity notes, but still with the refreshing spring notes of heaven. After taking the first sip, you'll want to drink more and more. It makes you smile every time you drink this tea. It is definitely a tea that deserves an award.
If you love a good sencha, this one is truly special. Because it won an award last year (2023). That means this tea will only be available for a limited time, so give this one a try and don't wait up if you love a good sencha.
Brewing Instructions: Use a Japanese teapot (Kyusu) with about 5g and 200ml of water at 170ºF. Steep the tea for around 50-60 seconds. Please make sure you use good spring water to maximize the flavor of this tea.
