Japanese Organic Yuzu Green Tea

This tea begins with an organic Tamaryokucha — a curled-leaf Japanese green tea known for its smooth texture and gentle umami. Unlike the more commonly found sencha (a steamed Japanese green tea tha is rolled into straight needles), Tamaryokucha is pan-finished rather than needle-rolled, giving it a rounder, slightly nutty taste and buttery mouthfeel.

We chose this small organic farm because their teas deliver a clear, steady caffeine feel that is bright and focused, never harsh or jittery. Without chemical fertilizers or pesticides, the leaf flavor is pure and calm from start to finish.

Usually, teas blended with fruit or flowers hide behind poor-quality bases. The flavorings mask bitterness or rough texture, leaving a tea that tastes artificial and hits uncomfortably. This one is the complete opposite: high-quality organic Tamaryokucha paired with real Japanese yuzu peel. You can see it in the pretty leaves and citrus peel, and you can taste it in how clean the flavor and aftertaste are.

When you open the bag, you’ll smell a vivid yuzu aroma — fragrant, citrusy, and refreshing. Once brewed, the aroma of the tea presents more like buttered popcorn and soft toasted-pumpkin seeds. The cup balances the green freshness and the buttery-cream body of Tamaryokucha with the refreshing  yuzu brightness that lingers long after each sip. You might expect offputting bitterness or acidity from citrus, but this tea has none and stays smooth and gentle from first sip to last.

Brewing Guide
  • 5g of tea leaves in 180-200ml Kyusu or small teapot

  • Water Temperature: 175 °F / 80 °C

  • Steep Time: 15–17 seconds (start counting the moment water touches the leaf.)

  • Be careful not to over-steep the tea, otherwise it will over-extract bitterness from the yuzu peels and compromise the balance of the tea.

This tea prefers quick brews with higher temperatures. Instead of brewing 5g of tea 165°F / 90°C for 30 seconds like with other Japanese green teas, you can brew it at 175°F / 80°C for just 15-17 seconds to bring out the full complexity of the green tea.

Season & Enjoyment
Yuzu reaches peak season in Japan from late autumn through early winter, making this tea a seasonal winter favorite. But despite its winter roots, the bright citrus and clean finish make it an excellent iced tea for warmer months. This versatile and refreshing tea is deeply satisfying any time of year.

This is a fruit-blended tea done right: clean, smooth, and beautifully balanced — proof that when you start with great tea leaves, you don’t have to hide anything.
