Material & Clay
The teapot is made from 本山绿 (běn shān lǜ), a rare and highly regarded Yixing clay variety. The surface shows a 梨皮 (lí pí, “pear-skin”) texture, meaning a slightly speckled and sandy appearance that collectors value for its natural character and tactile feel. This type of clay is considered collector’s grade material.
Design & Shape
This handcrafted teapot is inspired by the lotus pond, symbolizing purity and harmony in traditional Chinese culture. Its body is shaped like a blooming lotus seed pod, with delicately carved veins and earthy tones that capture the natural elegance of the plant.
Atop the lid sits a finely sculpted three-legged toad (金蟾, Jin Chan), a classic symbol of prosperity and protection in Chinese tradition. The combination of the lotus—representing purity—and the toad—representing wealth and good fortune—makes this teapot not just a functional piece of teaware, but also a vessel filled with meaning.
The spout and handle are detailed with dark green accents, harmonizing with the overall design. Each element has been carefully shaped to reflect a balance between artistry and utility, making it ideal for gongfu tea sessions as well as for display.
