This 2021 Wild Mother Bush Gongmei White Tea comes from Zhenghe County in Fujian Province, northeast of Wuyishan. It grows at 1,600 meters, much higher than most white teas in the region. The high elevation slows growth, which gives the leaves more depth, complexity, and a clean, fresh taste.

The tea comes from a mother bush (母树, mǔshù)—one of the original wild-grown tea plants. Mother bushes have deep roots and stable genetics, so the tea naturally has stronger aroma, richer flavor, and good aging potential. Being wild-grown (野生, yěshēng), it’s hand-harvested and nourished by the surrounding biodiversity—no pesticides or synthetic fertilizers

On the nose, the tea greets you with a soft floral aroma, while the texture is smooth and thick. The tea fills both mouth and nose with the scent of flowers but not in an overpowering way, more like walking past a room of drying wildflowers. The tea has a gentle but deep fruity sweetness, reminiscent of honey-dew melon, that lingers.

This tea has been aged four years, giving it a light caramel color and a touch of depth while still keeping that fresh white tea character. It’s a great balance between classic freshness and gentle maturity.

Brewing (Gongfu Style):

  • 3 grams in a 90ml gaiwan

  • Water at 185°F (85°C)

  • First, give it a quick rinse, then steep 45 seconds for the first infusion, and 15 seconds for the following ones.

  • This tea wont get bitter if you over steep but it will bring out some astringency if brewed at a higher temperature/boiling water.
  • Can be brewed 13–14 times, with each infusion showing slightly different flavors

A tea like this is perfect for anyone who enjoys exploring quality, wild-grown white teas, whether you’re sipping casually or building a small collection to age further.
