This puerh tea is dark and smooth, with a sweet fermented potato flavor. The liquid flows Heavy on the mouthfeel as you drink it down through your throat for a satisfying aftertaste that will leave refreshed!

Menghai County is located in the southwest of Yunnan Province and is one of the most famous pu-erh regions. Menghai's tea trees are mostly large and old, some over 1,000 years old. The county seat town of Menghai is about 7 hours by bus from Kunming.

The region has a long and continuous history of tea cultivation and production, with the earliest records dating back to the Nanzhao kingdom (738-902). In recent years, Menghai County has become well known for producing pu-erh tea, which has been grown and processed here for centuries. The Menghai region is home to some of the oldest and largest tea trees in the world, and these ancient trees produce a unique flavor that is prized by pu-erh aficionados. Menghai puerh is typically rich and earthy, with a deep amber color and a smooth, mellow flavor. This 2011 "Darkmoon" shou puerh is a perfect example of Menghai's unique style. This tea is made from a blend of leaves from Bulang Mountain and stem material, giving it a sweet smoothness that is perfect for enjoying now or aging for later enjoyment.

Authentic Menghai puerh has no acidity, moldy odor, or other strange flavors. The mouthfeel is mild and smooth, slightly sticky with a hint of bitterness when the tea liquid is at its thickest.

It has a clean taste, meaning that it didn't have any 'off' fermentation flavors. This tea utilizes leaves from Bulang Mountain and mostly uses buds as its material - but what sets Menghai County's tea apart is that it often retains its stems. Stems have fewer tannins and often add to the sweet smoothness of the tea.

So if you're looking for a delicious pu-erh that you can enjoy now without waiting years for it to reach full maturity, this 2011 "Darkmoon" shou puerh is a perfect choice.

Darkmoon Shines Bright!

There’s nothing dark about this shu puerh! It’s been perfectly aged like a fine wine or a prime aged fillet mignon with notes of flavor from both! Rich and earthy without actually tasting like dirt. Beautifully mellow with the right balance of bright highlights of fragrance give this tea a smooth rich base flavor that is the perfect carrier for notes of fruit and a hint of chocolate that blend into the floral aromas that are prominent on the nose. A great tea to save back a cup from multiple steepings and then blend them together much as you would a good blended whiskey to take full advantage of the wonderful change of the flavor profile throughout the brewing process. The best tea to finish a long lunch and enjoy taking a few minutes to relax and savor a delicious tasting experience before you continue the rest of your day! As a long time fan of shu puerh, it’s sometimes hard to find something that stands out from the ordinary and this is definitely one of those teas that grabs your attention and reminds you of everything you love about tea! Another great selection from the fine folks at Tea and Whisk!

I love a good Puerh and this one is exceptional! I will be purchasing it again. I really enjoy this in the morning as a substitution for coffee that I cannot drink… It's a nice substantial Tea!
