From the same producer behind one of our most popular Japanese greens—the Nagasaki Award Winner Tsuyuhikari Tamaryokucha—comes this standout Asatsuyu Green Tea.
The Tamaryokucha won awards in Japan.
This one won its award in Paris.
And it’s easy to see why.
You’ll find muscat grape and honeydew melon sweetness right away, followed by a creamy, creamed-corn-like subtle nuttiness and fresh spinach-like vegetal notes. There's a lingering fruity, floral aroma that stays in the nose, rounding out the tea in a sweet, refreshing way.
It’s sweet, layered, and surprisingly complex.
This tea is made from Asatsuyu (あさつゆ), one of Japan’s most famous specialty cultivars.
Often called “Natural Gyokuro” (天然玉露), Asatsuyu is known for producing exceptional sweetness and umami naturally, without the need for heavy shading. It has very little bitterness or astringency, delivering a rich, smooth, deeply satisfying cup.
Asatsuyu is a relatively rare cultivar, making up only a small portion of Japan’s tea production and known to be difficult to grow and process well. This is one of the reasons why high-quality Asatsuyu like this stands out so clearly.
Grown in Nagasaki, a region quietly gaining recognition for high-quality tea, this tea benefits from a unique environment:
Cool nights and warm days
Frequent spring morning fog
Clean mountain water from the Tara mountain range
These conditions help bring out the tea’s clarity, sweetness, and aromatic depth.
Brewing Instructions
Use 5g of tea in a 250ml kyusu with 165°F water.
Steep for 30–40 seconds for the first infusion. And 25-30 seconds for the following infusions.
The first brew carries the best flavor, so do not rinse this tea.
You can expect 3–4 infusions, each revealing a slightly different side of the tea.
If you’re looking for a Japanese green tea that’s sweet, vibrant, and expressive, this one makes it very easy to understand why Asatsuyu revered and why this tea earned recognition even beyond Japan.
