Jingdezhen "Iris Pavillion" Gaiwans (Approx. 95-125 ml)
Dimensions: 4-4.75" wide x 3-3.75" tall

By the same artist known for her expressive qinghua work, these two spouted gaiwans bring together classical brush painting and thoughtful, user-friendly design.

Formed in a shiboridashi-inspired style, these vessels function as an “easy gaiwan.” A subtle spout and integrated ceramic strainer allow for clean, controlled pours, reducing spills and lowering the learning curve often associated with traditional gaiwan brewing. They offer the precision of gongfu-style tea preparation, with added ease and confidence in the hand.

The surface is finished in a soft white glaze, creating a calm backdrop for the artwork. Across the body, elegant bamboo leaves are painted entirely in qinghua cobalt blue underglaze. The composition feels restrained and refined, more like an illustration lifted from a hand-painted scroll or palace wall mural.

The bamboo leaves stretch and arc with quiet rhythm, their leaves defined by deliberate cobalt lines that balance movement and stillness. With only varying shades of blue and light green, the depth comes from brush control and opacity rather than vibrant color variation. The result is composed, classical, and quietly striking.

In the hand, the vessel feels balanced and intuitive. The spout guides the pour cleanly, while the iris motif lends a sense of grace and ceremony to each infusion.

As with all of the artist’s qinghua work, each piece is entirely hand-painted, and no two are ever exactly the same. Subtle variations in brushstroke and composition give each gaiwan its own personality.

These spouted bamboo gaiwans are ideal for tea drinkers who appreciate traditional aesthetics but want a more approachable brewing experience.
