Luye Honey Red Oolong is a high oxidation oolong that has the complexity and lingering aftertaste of oolong, but also it has a warm feeling like black tea. It is very difficult trying to find a good red oolong. Most red oolong has these sour notes that you normally get from black tea. We are extremely excited we find a red oolong that tastes so incredibly sweet like honey but still has a lot of fun savory spices like cloves and peppercorns. The best part about this tea is organic! Making it even better, especially since it's difficult to get a good-tasting organic tea from Taiwan. Luye Honey Red Oolong is the best of both worlds - complex and sweet!
This tea is so much fun to play around with. We like to use a 3g in a 100ml gaiwan and rinse the tea using a water temperature of 205ºF (95ºC). After rinsing the tea, the first infusion should steep for about 40 seconds. 2nd steep, I usually do for about 15-20 seconds. This tea is so much fun, don't be afraid to play around with the steeping time. A shorter steep time will bring more of the honey notes, while a longer steep time will bring more of the spice notes. Have fun with this amazing tea!
